Finding Balance as a Parent + Girlboss

Balance.

Something many of us struggle with even on a daily basis at times. Balance is challenging however, when you become a parent you become what I call a time juggler. Finding the time to complete the tasks you need to complete all in a days time while being a parent!

I always wanted to be a mother. It was all that mattered to me at one point in my life. I was determined to overcome my infertility issues (we'll save that for another post) and have a child of our own. In 2014, I overcame that issue by completing a successful round of IVF, pushing through a high risk pregnancy and then gave birth to a healthy baby boy at 37 weeks but with becoming a mother I also took on a whole new meaning to the word balance.
My goals and dreams are very important to me. I take great pride in them and I'm very determined in succeeding however finding and creating balance in my life to accomplish those goals wasn't easy. It took time in figuring out what was right for me and my son.

So because of the fact that I am very aware of the challenges we face, I decided to share some of the ways I have found balance in my life as a parent and small business owner.

Have a schedule

A schedule allows me to have a full view of my daily, weekly and monthly tasks. It shows me when I have appointments scheduled, events, deadlines, etc. It's a great way to give yourself some insight into things that are coming up and really helps you balance out your time.

Ask for help

Here's one that I STILL struggle with because I tend to have the attitude of "I like the way I do it, so I'd rather just do it myself". But guess what?! We are only one person with two hands, we can't do it all. Having help, even if it's from your significant other will dramatically help with giving yourself time to accomplish tasks. Ask a relative to babysit or hire a babysitter, rotate days of giving baths to the kiddos, order in pizza 1 night a week, etc. Remove the "mama" responsibility by asking for help so that you can complete other tasks.

Multitask

Yes, I know this is a skill and that some of us may not have it but if you do USE IT or at least try to anyways. There are so many tasks that I multitask through daily. For an example, I started this post at my desk in the earlyyyy AM but then it was time to feed my kiddo breakfast so I saved the post and now I'm sitting at my dining room table using my laptop to continue writing this post, while feeding my son breakfast, talking to him in behind bites and sipping on some tea, yum. Try grouping some tasks together that way you make time for other tasks you may need to complete.

Unplug

Here's one where you're probably thinking... "huh, I thought we were trying to find balance so that we could complete tasks?!" We are, we are.. I promise but every now and then I need to unplug from social media, internet surfing, phone apps, blogging, etc. in order to find balance within myself. All of these things can cause chaos in your brain, crowding your thoughts and in the end leaving you feeling drained and totally off balance. So be sure to unplug every now and then. Give yourself a break to unwind and reevaluate.

Learn how to say NO!

As a parent I can't help but feel that "mommy guilt" whenever I just can't do something for my kiddo. It breaks my heart and I always feel so bad but I've slowly learned and am still learning that this is an area where I need balance. It's ok for us to say no sometimes. We can't always do everything our kids want especially when they want it done. And same goes for saying NO to others. Maybe someone wants to visit one day or someone has asked you to do something for them but maybe those things disrupt your schedule and the balance you've worked so hard to create. Don't be afraid to say NO.

Sleep, it's time to rest

Yes, I know that you may still have 3894567872 tasks you need to complete but in order to do so you need sleep. We can't function when we don't get rest. You would be attempting to complete tasks but I'm pretty sure they wouldn't be completed and it they were they wouldn't be completed very well. Make sure you get 7-9 hours of sleep daily.

Time off

This is something not many of us get to do often but it is something that will help you dramatically when it comes to finding balance in your life. Every time I have some time off, I feel so rejuvenated and ready to go when I come back to everything. So even if it's a small weekend getaway, DO IT!

... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ...

Well luvs, I hope this roundup helps you where you need it most. Remember, these are things that help me find balance. They may not work for everyone but always be sure to at least attempt it. You never know if it will work for you until you give it a try.

xx.
